2025 Fantasy Outlook
Thompson appeared to be on his way up after a strong sophomore campaign in 2024, but he never really found the magic in 2025. As is often the case with young golfers that pick up their first win, his game fell off a bit the following season. This happens because the pressure of retaining their card is off for two years. This is year two however, so if Thompson wants to retain his playing priveleges for 2027, he'll have to earn it this season. Normally that pressure is enough to snap the golfer out of whatever funk they found themselves in and that should hold true for Thompson this season. Luckily for those playing in salary cap leagues, Thompson's number dropped pretty low this past season, making him a solid play this year. Read Past Outlooks
Best finish of 2026 in Puerto Rico
March 8, 2026
Thompson posted a 13-under cumulative score at the Puerto Rico Open to finish solo fourth.
ANALYSIS
Thompson started out slowly with an even-par 72 in the first round but managed to make the two-under cut line after a three-under 69 on Friday. He surged up the leaderboard with a seven-under 65 in the third round and did enough Sunday to capture his first top-5 finish of the 2026 Tour season (and first since the Shriners Children's Open in October of 2024). Thompson ended the event as the second-best scrambler while ranking T9 in GIR and T15 in driving accuracy. He'll be in the field next week for THE PLAYERS Championship, where he made the cut in two of three prior outings, including a T10 finish in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Thompson had an excellent start to his rookie season with two top-15s in his first three events and a runner-up finish at The American Express in January. The momentum stalled from there, however, as he failed to record a top-10 the rest of the year. The 24-year-old is fueled by his driving play, as he is long off-the-tee (31st in driving distance) and fairly accurate having ranked 90th in driving accuracy. Considering the other areas of his game are all around Tour average, some slight improvements across the board along with a year under his belt on the main stage could lead to an improved second season.
Ranking fourth on the Korn Ferry Tour in total driving and 14th in ball striking, Thompson finished 14th on the regular season points list and he won early-June's REX Hospital Open to secure his maiden PGA Tour card. The 23-year-old University of Georgia product retains rookie eligibility despite 13 career starts at the PGA Tour level, notably notching a top-25 as an amateur at the 2019 RSM Classic. He's a former No. 1 player in the Amateur World Golf Ranking and was twice named first-team All-American in college. The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder profiles as a potential ROY candidate if the short game cooperates against tougher competition.
