Chad Reuter of NFL.com notes that Fields' performance at the 2026 NFL Combine may have taken the Notre Dame product out of contention for a first-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Fields' 38-inch vertical jump was respectable, but his 4.61-second 40-yard dash was one of the slowest times among wide receivers in Indianapolis. His substandard stop-start ability was exposed during on-field drills as he was late to the spot on multiple routes, and while he displayed strong hands during pass-catching drills, he did drop multiple passes during the gauntlet drill. He is ranked as the fifth-best wide receiver on Mel Kiper of ESPN's Big Board, but Fields may no longer be in contention for a first-round selection at the 2026 NFL Draft unless he improves his stock through Notre Dame's Pro Day.
