2025 Fantasy Outlook
Smith got rolling in Week 5 last year and never looked back, catching 79 of 98 targets for 806 yards and eight touchdowns over his final 13 games of 2024. Despite having only 78 yards in his first four games, Smith finished fourth among TEs in yards (884), targets (111) and catches (88) while tying for second at the position with eight TDs in a career season. Miami’s offense was built around getting the ball out quickly with short passes, and Smith fit the scheme perfectly as an undersized (6-foot-3, 248) but quick tight end. Smith, though, was traded to the Steelers in June, reuniting him with OC Arthur Smith. Jonnu had a productive season (70 targets) with Arthur's Falcons in 2023, but it wasn't close to what he did last year in Miami. That's likely to be the case again in Pittsburgh. Expect a lot of two-TE sets with Jonnu and Pat Freiermuth splitting tight-end targets and WR DK Metcalf dominating the looks from new QB Aaron Rodgers. What's more, Arthur Smith's run-first offense (29th in pass attempts last year, fourth in rush attempts) means fewer targets to go around overall. Smith's 2024 production looks like the case of a late bloomer finding the right situation rather than a flash in the pan, but now he's in the wrong situation. Read Past Outlooks
Cleared to play vs. Houston
Smith (glute) does not carry an injury designation into Monday's wild-card game against the Texans, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith popped up on Friday's injury report as a limited practice participant due to a glute injury. He was able to log a full session Saturday, which was enough for him to fade an injury designation for Monday's playoff game. Smith logged just one catch (on two targets) for two yards during the Steelers' regular-season finale against the Ravens, and he'll operate as a rotational option in the passing game behind fellow tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Smith took his talents to South Beach in the offseason, signing a two-year contract with the Dolphins. He’ll compete with Durham Smythe for the few touches left over for the tight ends behind wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. Smith set career highs in targets (70), catches (50) and receiving yards (582) with the Falcons last season, and his three touchdowns in 2023 tied the second-highest total of his career, behind the eight-TD outlier he produced in his fourth and final season with the Titans back in 2020. Given his expected role in Miami, Smith’s production could look more like his unimpressive first stint in the AFC East, when the journeyman had a combined 539 yards and one touchdown for New England in the 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Initially surprised by trade
In a recent appearance on former teammate Terron Armstead's podcast, Smith said he was initially surprised by the Dolphins' decision to trade him to the Steelers, Coral Smith of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith conceded an exit from Miami was essentially the last thing on his mind at the end of the 2024 season, which had seen Smith record a career-high 88 receptions for 884 yards and also tie a career best with eight touchdowns. Smith, who also attended college in South Florida at FIU, acknowledged he had aspirations of ending his career with the Dolphins, but he added he was grateful to the team for conceding they wouldn't be able to offer him the caliber of extension he was seeking after his Pro Bowl year and moving him to one that could.
