Stone transferred to Northwestern after getting usurped by Kevin Jennings at SMU last fall. It was a surprising turn of events, considering Stone was coming off an excellent 2023 season in which he threw for 3,197 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. He could be the best quarterback talent at Northwestern in some time, but the team has few returning players in the receiving corps and the Wildcats have been a run-first, defensive oriented system. Tough day in loss
Stone was 19-for-36 passing for 163 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions during Saturday's 20-13 loss to Illinois.
ANALYSIS
Stone had a rough outing in Northwestern's season finale against Illinois, throwing for just 163 yards while completing 52.8 percent of his pass attempts to go along with three interceptions. The 6-foot-1 quarterback did manage to find the end zone on the day, connecting with receiver Hayden Eligon on a 13-yard scoring strike in the second quarter, giving the Wildcats a 10-7 lead at the time. Stone finished the regular season with 2,174 yards and 14 touchdowns to 12 interceptions through 12 games while adding a rushing score as well. With the Wildcats finishing 6-6, Stone will get one more shot to make an impact in the team's upcoming bowl game.
