Starting season as backup
Garcia will begin the 2025 season in a backup role as fellow quarterback Bryce Underwood has been named the starter for Michigan's season opener against New Mexico, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Garcia was part of the position battle for the starting gig in Ann Arbor along with Underwood and Mikey Keene, but appears to be set to start the season in a backup role. The 6-foot-2 signal caller joined the Wolverines in the offseason after transferring in from East Carolina, where he threw for 1,426 yards and eight touchdowns to 12 interceptions in 2024. It remains to be seen whether Garcia or Keene will be named the primary backup to Underwood to start the 2025 season.
