Cameron Friel

Friel won out the quarterback competition last season with the Runnin’ Rebels, but he will need to work hard to maintain it for a second year as he heads into his sophomore season. As a freshman starting quarterback, Friel threw for 1,608 yards and had 141 completions, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The number of yards he threw for was acceptable for a freshman, but what was really troubling about him was the ratio of 6:11 touchdowns to interceptions. This could be why his starting position is in jeopardy, as he is currently part of a two-way competition with Doug Brumfield. While Brumfield has less experience in a starting role than Friel, he has been training for two years to try and earn a position, and is not going to let Friel become QB1 without fighting hard for it.
