2024 Fantasy Outlook
Barnes is poised to take over the starting job after throwing for 856 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions while backing up Spencer Petras in 2024. It won't be an easy task for the senior under new head coach Bronco Mendenhall, as none of the Aggies' top-five receivers from last season will return in 2025. Barnes, a former Utah transfer, will likely be asked to make a lot happen with his legs - he ran for 530 yards and five touchdowns on 68 attempts last year. We've seen run-first quarterbacks have success under Mendenhall - under the veteran coach, Devon Dampier rushed for 1,166 yards and 19 touchdowns with New Mexico last season. Read Past Outlooks
Struggles in passing game
Barnes completed 9 of 21 passes for 116 yards and one interception during Monday's 34-21 defeat versus Washington State. He also had 13 rushes for seven yards with one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
For a second straight game, Barnes logged a sub-50.0 completion percentage, which resulted in Jacob Conover stepping in under center during the bowl game. Despite lackluster form to end Barnes' career, 2025 is still his best year yet, backed up by 3,550 total yards and 29 touchdowns as Utah State's primary quarterback for most of the season.
