Late-season injuries limited Maxey to 52 games, though he likely would have played if the 76ers were competitive. Philadelphia won just 24 games as Joel Embiid and Paul George combined for 60 appearances. That left a lot on Maxey's shoulders. His efficiency from the field took a hit (43.7 FG%), but the point guard averaged a career-high 26.3 points in addition to 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals with just 2.4 turnovers. He also played over 37 minutes per game (37.7) for the second straight season. Healthier seasons from George and Embiid could mean an efficiency bounceback and more assists for Maxey. If they continue to struggle with injuries, we know Maxey can pick up the scoring slack. All of that is to say that he's become the team's most reliable player - one who is producing All-Star numbers at 24 years old. There aren't many guards in the NBA better than Maxey in real life or fantasy. He should be considered for fantasy managers in the middle of the second round. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Maxey was born Nov. 4, 2000 in Dallas, Texas. He is the son of Denyse and Tyrone Maxey. His father, Tyrone, played basketball at Washington State and is the Director of Recruiting for SMU's basketball team. Tyrese has three sisters: Denasia, Talia and Keiara. Maxey has seen every Marvel movie since 2008. Maxey played his high school ball at South Garland High School in Garland, Texas, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. He was named to the 2018 USA Today All-Texas First Team and was a McDonald's All-American selection. After high school, he was tabbed as the No. 10 overall prospect by the Recruiting Services Consensus Index. For college, he chose Kentucky over Texas, Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma State. During his one year at Kentucky, Maxey performed exploratory studies in agriculture before opting to leave college to pursue an NBA career. Fans can follow the guard via @TyreseMaxey on both Twitter and Instagram. A consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school, Maxey was able to live up to expectations in his first and only season with Kentucky. He made his collegiate debut in a high-profile game Nov. 5 against Michigan State, scoring 26 points off the bench in a seven-point victory. Maxey moved into the starting lineup three games later and never looked back. His season-high of 27 points came in an OT victory Dec. 28 against Louisville, and he posted a season-best eight assists just a few games later against Georgia. When it was all said and done, Maxey finished third on the team in scoring (14.0 PPG) and second in three-pointers made (33). He made the SEC All-Freshman team and was second-team All-SEC before officially declaring for the draft shortly after the season's conclusion.

January 20, 2026
Maxey logged 20 points (7-25 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 4-5 FT), seven assists, two rebounds, three steals and one block over 43 minutes during the 76ers' 116-110 loss to the Suns on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS Maxey logged a game-high 43 minutes despite playing the second leg of the 76ers' back-to-back set. That potential fatigue may have influenced his shot-making ability Tuesday, though he was still active on offense with a game-high seven assists. Maxey also showed off his defensive chops again with three steals, one day after recording a career-high eight swipes in Monday's win over the Pacers. Since Jan. 1, he has averaged 27.7 points, 5.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 threes, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks over 38.5 minutes per game.

2021
After a breakout season in 2021-22, Maxey was unable to take the next step last year. He fell to be the 76th-ranked player in nine-category leagues, putting up steady averages of 20.3 points, 3.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.7 triples. He was able to increase his points production, but the same cannot be said for his peripheral numbers. With James Harden demanding a trade out of Philadelphia, it appears the time is now for Maxey. Although management has refused to yield to Harden, he has gone on the record saying that he will not play unless he is traded. If, in fact, Harden is not in the lineup on opening night, Maxey could very well find himself as the starting point guard. This in itself should result in a bump for Maxey, both in fantasy and reality. If he can demonstrate an improved passing game, a top-50 season could very well be in the cards.
Maxey was one of the most notable breakout players of the 2021-22 season. Ben Simmons' absence before the trade deadline allowed Maxey to step in as the starting point guard, and his role remained stagnant after the Sixers dealt Simmons for James Harden. The 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Maxey averaged 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 35.3 minutes in his second NBA campaign. His shooting efficiency was excellent, especially considering the considerable increase in role and his age (just 21), with the point guard slashing 49/43/87. Impressively, Maxey also minimized his turnovers (1.2), making him a sneaky target in nine-category fantasy leagues. Maxey also played at a high level into the playoffs during the 76ers' series against the Raptors and Heat. Over 12 postseason games, the Kentucky product averaged 20.8 points on 48/38/94 shooting, 3.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and just 1.8 turnovers in 40.4 minutes per game. Maxey's role will likely remain the same for this upcoming season, though fantasy managers can expect some improvement given his age. Ultimately, Maxey's usage will be capped given the presence of Harden and Joel Embiid. Still, he has already established himself as the Sixers' No. 3 option and someone capable of running a bench unit.
In his rookie season, Maxey was able to play very efficiently despite not having a set role with the Sixers. Of his 61 appearances, he played 20-plus minutes in 23 of them, but also played fewer than 10 minutes in 23 games. However, when the Kentucky product was given opportunities, he certainly showed promise, as he scored his career-high 39 points in just the tenth game of his career. In the entirety of the season, Maxey averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.7 rebounds while shooting a solid 46.2 percent from the field. Now, with Ben Simmons wanting out of Philadelphia, Maxey could be destined for a much larger role with the team in the 2021-22 campaign. If the 20-year-old can see enough minutes, he could gain relevance in deeper formats.

Wants to play for Team USA
GPhiladelphia 76ers
January 19, 2026
Maxey, who was selected as a starter for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, said he'd "love to play" for Team USA in the future, according to PHLY Sixers. "I would love to play for Team USA...If that's something that I have the opportunity to do, then I'll definitely be there for it," he said.
ANALYSIS Maxey is having the best season of his career in 2025-26, and he fully deserves the starting role in the upcoming All-Star Game. Maxey leads the NBA in minutes per game with 39.3 and is averaging career-high marks in points, assists, rebounds, steals and blocks per game this season. With that in mind, it wouldn't be shocking if he gets consideration for a roster spot with Team USA, especially since his explosiveness would be useful in the international stage.
