Kolek's rookie season in New York left a lot to be desired. He appeared in a total of 41 NBA games for an average of 7.2 minutes per night. He did find plenty of success in the G League, however, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals. Looking ahead to 2025-26, Kolek wasn't able to build much momentum during the Summer League, as he shot 32.3 percent from the field through five games. New York's rotation will look very similar as well, but the team is even deeper following the additions of Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. Unless he makes some serious noise at training camp, Kolek will not be on the re-draft fantasy radar. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a three-year, $6.58 million contract with the Knicks in July of 2024. Contract includes $2.49 million team option for 2027-28.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
From Cumberland, Rhode Island, Kolek played his freshman year at George Mason and was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after averaging 10.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists. However, Dave Paulson was fired in the offseason, so Kolek transferred to Marquette. In his first season as a Golden Eagle, he led the team with 5.9 assists per game. The following campaign, he was named the Big East Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 Big East Tournament. As a senior, he led the NCAA with 7.7 assists per game and added 15.3 points en route to being named a 2nd-Team All-American. At 6-foot-3, Kolek is a polished floor general who's fantastic at picking apart defenses via pick-and-rolls. He looks confident shooting from the top of the key when defenders go under screens, but he's better as a catch-and-shoot option than a player hunting his jumper. Kolek shot better than 38% from deep in his final two campaigns at Marquette and finished his collegiate career with a 35.5 mark. He's patient in the paint and has great touch around the rim with both hands. Kolek is an instinctual defender and can read passing lanes, but he has a lot of work to do on that end before being considered a strong two-way player at the pro level. Kolek is a couple inches shorter than Luke Kennard and Austin Reaves but a couple inches taller than T.J. McConnell. The Marquette product's game is a blend of all three NBA vets, but Kolek is likely better off operating as the primary ballhandler and offensive initiator for a second unit, similar to what McConnell has done for many years in Indiana. Kolek would likely need to be a 40% shooter from beyond the arc to be worthy of a starting spot on most NBA squads.
Dishes five assists in win

December 4, 2025
Kolek closed with six points (2-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one block in 13 minutes during Wednesday's 119-104 victory over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS Kolek has now played at least 13 minutes in his last three games and in six of his last seven, averaging 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocks in that span. Kolek has emerged as the team's backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson with Miles McBride sliding into the starting lineup due to OG Anunoby's (hamstring) absence. Kolek will likely continue to hold down this role until Landry Shamet (shoulder) returns from injury.

ANALYSIS The Knicks might need more depth at point guard following the sudden retirement of Malcolm Brogdon, and Kolek could be ready to see an uptick in minutes off the bench. Knicks head coach Mike Brown is known for giving young players more opportunities compared to his predecessor, Tom Thibodeau, so that might translate to more playing time for Kolek, even if it's as a third-string point guard or deep option off the bench. Kolek averaged 7.2 minutes per game during 41 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.
