2024 Fantasy Outlook
Sorber was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the reigning champions. However, the Georgetown product will have a redshirt rookie campaign after tearing the ACL in his right knee during an offseason workout. While it's obviously an early blow to his career, it was unlikely Sorber would've been part of the NBA rotation in Year 1, so it shouldn't impact his standing with the organization. The Thunder had a similar situation last season with Nikola Topic, who's now healthy and ready to contribute. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should still keep close tabs on Sorber, who flashed elite defensive potential in college. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Sorber grew up in New Jersey before transferring to Archbishop Ryan High School in Pennsylvania, where he emerged as a four-star recruit. He chose Georgetown over Miami, Villanova and Providence but only spent one year with the Hoyas. Sorber made the most of his limited time in college, earning Third-Team All-Big East and Big East All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in 31.3 minutes. However, his freshman campaign was cut short after undergoing foot surgery in February. Sorber is a great low-post scorer who played with intense activity on defense. He was willing to shoot open threes in college, but the results weren't there despite solid mechanics. Sorber excels at dribble handoffs and passing out of postups or double teams, showing a solid feel for the game. Sorber's defense draws the attention of scouts, but he shows just enough offensive upside to be encouraged as a two-way player at the NBA level. At 6-foot-10 with elite defensive traits, Sorber shares physical similarities to Onyeka Okongwu. If he's able to extend his range, Sorber could have an upside close to Jabari Smith, who was taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Or Sorber could focus on his offensive footwork like Drew Timme, who got a chance in the NBA after dominating the G League during his first professional season. If Sorber adds to his offensive game, he profiles as a solid two-way starter, but he'll likely be a defensive-focused player to start his NBA career.

September 5, 2025
The Thunder announced Friday that Sorber sustained a torn ACL in his right knee during an offseason workout and will miss the entire 2025-26 season, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Sorber wasn't expected to handle a major role for the reigning NBA champions during his rookie campaign, but the knee injury is nonetheless a major setback to his development. He had already been on the mend from a foot injury that cut his final collegiate season with Georgetown short and kept him from playing in the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. Sorber should be able to make a full recovery from the knee injury in advance of the 2026-27 campaign, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to go for summer ball.

July 7, 2025
Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a June 29 press conference that Sorber won't play in the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas Summer Leagues while the rookie center recovers from Feb. 26 surgery on his left foot. "He is still in the return-to-performance phase, and the draft process doesn't really allow for great progress in that because he is traveling all over the place," Presti said of Sorber.

Team will be patient with him
COklahoma City Thunder
August 11, 2025
In his mailbag column on Aug. 6, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman said the Thunder will be patient with Sorber.
ANALYSIS
Sorber underwent surgery for a turf toe injury he suffered on Feb. 15 and missed all of Summer League play. The No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft was able to do some work on the side, and he said June 28 that he was taking things day by day. Martinez reports that Sorber could be ready for training camp, but the Thunder could proceed with caution, and they certainly have the depth to warrant that approach.
