As of late July, it appears that the starting power forward spot for Boston is a competition between Hauser and Chris Boucher. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. This, of course, is due to the Achilles injury suffered by star Jayson Tatum back in May. Tatum is out for all of 2025-26, leaving a massive void at the power forward spot. And the situation could be made worse with the retirement of veteran Al Horford. Over four seasons, Hauser averaged 18.5 minutes per game and has only started in 40 out of 256 NBA game appearances (16%). Boucher has been coming off the bench for the past eight years in Toronto. Considering Hauser's experience within Coach Joe Mazzulla's system, Hauser probably has the edge. But at 6-foot-8 and a career average of only 2.9 rebounds per game, Hauser is not a prototypical power forward. Over his career, the bulk of Hauser's minutes have come at the wing. Regardless, considering the dearth of "big" options on the Boston roster, Hauser should see an improvement over the 22 minutes per game he's averaged over the past two seasons. More minutes should produce a slight uptick in most counting categories. In what might be a "bridge season" for the Celtics, 2025-26 could be the brightest opportunity in the 27-year-old's career. 2022
The departure of Grant Williams to the Mavericks creates the opportunity, slightly, for Hauser to see more playing time for the Celtics. The wing appeared in 80 games for Boston last year, his second year with the club. At 16.1 minutes per contest, Hauser proved his G League days were behind him. The three-point specialist shot a blistering 41.8 percent from behind the arc and demonstrated improved defensive abilities. Despite his 6-foot-8 frame, he was undersized during his occasional stints at power forward. Big minutes for new teammate Kristaps Porzingis should limit Hauser to just wing duties. He's behind Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Lamar Stevens and probably Oshae Brissett on the wing pecking order, but again has a chance to play in 75-plus games, if healthy. The 25-year-old will need a few injuries on the depth chart to exceed last year's minutes per game. Fantasy-wise, Hauser will provide a boost in three-pointers, but little else, for teams in very deep leagues. Otherwise, he's waiver-wire fodder.
Hauser has two seasons to prove he's worthy of an NBA rotational spot. As a 24-year-old rookie last season, the Virginia product appeared in 26 games for the Celtics and 13 games for the G League Maine Celtics. With Maine, Hauser averaged a promising 20.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.4 made three-pointers over 35 minutes per G League contest. With Boston, Hauser only earned a meager 6.1 minutes per game, usually in mop-up time. On 44 NBA three-point attempts, Hauser drained 43.2 percent. The production was enough for the Celtics to sign Hauser to a small two-year deal this summer. The 6-foot-8 sharpshooter will need a few injuries to receive meaningful playing time on this deep roster, and coach Ime Udoka showed last season that he prefers shorter rotations. Expect modest minutes for Hauser, with the occasional visit to Maine to stay sharp.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be starter for Boston
FBoston Celtics
July 29, 2025
Hauser is likely to compete with Georges Niang for a starting spot in Boston, Brian Robb reported in his mailbag column for Mass Live on July 25.
ANALYSIS Robb said it's important to note that Boston could make more changes this offseason, but as things currently stand, Hauser appears to be the favorite to open the season as the starting power forward. Niang will be his primary competition, while John Minott is described as a "potential wildcard." Hauser produced regular-season averages of 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 three-pointers per game in 2024-25, but he could be poised for a career year due to Jayson Tatum being sidelined by an Achilles tear.
