From Feb. 12 through April 7, Grimes averaged 23.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals in 34 minutes per game while posting 49/40/75 shooting splits. He was handed the keys for the first time in his career, as injuries completely overwhelmed the 76ers, who were actively tanking by the end of 2024-25. That won't be the case at the start of 2025-26. With Tyrese Maxey, Paul George and Joel Embiid expected to be healthy, Grimes will have to compete with Jared McCain, VJ Edgecombe and Kelly Oubre for a pair of starting spots. Philadelphia will also have veterans Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon available for backcourt depth. Even if Grimes carves out a starting role, he won't see nearly as much usage while sharing the court with a trio of All-Stars. That won't completely eliminate his fantasy value, but he'll be hard-pressed to return top-200 value. The perfect storm for Grimes may have won a ton of managers their fantasy championships last season, but when everyone is healthy in Philadelphia, he should be considered nothing more than a three-point specialist. Drops 26 points Saturday
GPhiladelphia 76ers
March 7, 2026
Grimes ended with 26 points (9-15 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 5-7 FT), six rebounds, three assists and one steal in 41 minutes during Saturday's 125-116 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS With VJ Edgecombe dealing with a lumbar contusion, Grimes is experiencing a surge in fantasy value. The 26 points were Grimes' most since the Nov. 30 defeat to the Hawks, and he's now posted at least 16 points in back-to-back games after being held to single digits in his prior three contests. Through 10 appearances as a starter in 2025-26, the 25-year-old swingman has averaged 12.8 points, 4.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 33.9 minutes per game.

Tom Thibodeau is notorious for giving players he loves massive minutes, and that was certainly the case for Grimes last year. The rookie played just 29.9 minutes a night during the regular season but played 42 and 48 minutes in two of this team's final three playoff games. Seeing a sophomore play a full 48 minutes is absurd, but it's less surprising when you see his 37-minute average over the final three weeks of the regular season. That would usually have us ecstatic about his fantasy value in his third year, but the signing of Donte DiVincenzo is discouraging. These two play the same position, and it seems unlikely Grimes plays more than 30 minutes unless there are some injuries in this rotation. It's not like the fantasy profile is glowing either, averaging 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 2.2 threes on 46.8 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point range. He's one of the better shooters in the NBA, but his role is going in the wrong direction. He wasn't even a significant part of this offense before, with Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, Josh Hart and R.J. Barrett asked to do so much. All of that should have Grimes going undrafted in most fantasy formats.
Despite having a sporadic role during his rookie season, there has been an element of hype surrounding Grimes heading into 2022-23. While a trade could have opened up more minutes, he should still feature heavily in the rotation despite the competition for minutes. Exactly Grimes will claim remains to be seen, making him more of a late-round flier at the moment. However, if he can expand his workload, he could be a sneaky source of points, threes and steals.
Grimes was selected by the Knicks with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. In his third collegiate season at Houston, the guard averaged 17.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 32.7 minutes. The 6-foot-5, 21-year-old shot an exceptional 40.3 percent from behind the three-point arc. He'll probably start as a 3-and-D player but has at least shown some upside to become a more dynamic player and possibly a secondary ballhandler. In Summer League, he averaged 15.3 points (3.7 3PM on 40.7%), 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 32.8 minutes. The rookie probably won't see consistent minutes unless the Knicks are dealing with a myriad of injuries.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Lakers could want him
GPhiladelphia 76ers
February 17, 2026
Grimes is among the players the Lakers could target in free agency after the 2025-26 season, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
ANALYSIS According to an unnamed front office member who spoke to ESPN, the Lakers "need to get as many defenders with length that can knock down a shot as possible." Grimes is a proven shot-maker who can thrive regardless of the role assigned to him. He could be an excellent weapon to boost the Lakers' scoring prowess, either as a starter or off the bench.
