Christie was moved from the Lakers to the Mavericks as part of the Luka Doncic deal mid-way through the 2024-25 season. Following a strong start to his career in Dallas, Christie's production subsided down the stretch. Across 27 games over the final two months of the season, he averaged 10.1 points to go with 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.6 three-pointers in 29.8 minutes per contest. While the Mavericks would love for Christie to work towards being the replacement for Klay Thompson, it remains to be seen whether he will get there. Other than Kyrie Irving, who is set to miss at least the first two months of the season, Dallas will roll out a relatively healthy lineup on opening night. The addition of D'Angelo Russell only complicates matters further, meaning Christie could very well end up being nothing more than a 22-minute per-night player. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a three-year, $23.14 million contract with the Lakers in July of 2024. Traded to the Mavericks in February of 2025. Contract includes $8.86 million player option for 2027-28.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Cormac Karl "Max" Christie Jr. was born in February of 2003 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The basketball genetics were passed down through his mother Katrina who played college basketball at Northwestern and finished her Wildcat career with over 1,000 points. Christie played basketball for Rolling Meadows High School in Rolling Meadows, Illinois where he was teammates with his younger brother Cameron. Max immediately made an impact as a freshman, averaging 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists per game. He made a jump during his junior season, averaging 25 points and 11 rebounds per game, earning Pioneer Press Player of the Year honors. As a senior, Christie averaged 24.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game, leading his team to a 15-0 record, the Mid-Suburban league title and was selected as News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year. Christie was a consensus five-star recruit and ranked as the third-best shooting guard in the class of 2021 by ESPN. After receiving offers from Duke, Villanova and Ohio State, he committed to playing college basketball for Michigan State. As a freshman, he averaged 9.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. He decided to forego his sophomore year and declared for the draft on April 1, 2022. Christie ended up in Hollywood as the Lakers selected him in the second round with the 35th pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
Drains four threes in loss
GDallas Mavericks
March 2, 2026
Christie ended Sunday's 100-87 loss to the Thunder with 14 points (5-11 FG, 4-8 3Pt), seven rebounds and two steals across 35 minutes.
ANALYSIS The Mavericks scored only 86 points as a team in this loss Sunday, but Christie was one of the few standout performers for Dallas. He's hit multiple threes in seven of his last 10 appearances since the beginning of February. Although he's shooting just 32.8 percent from deep in that span, he remains a decent fantasy contributor from a volume perspective. In that 10-game stretch, he's averaging 13.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After dominating in the recent Summer League, Christie may very well have earned himself a consistent role in the Lakers rotation. He played just 12.5 minutes per night during his rookie campaign, averaging 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds. However, he flashed his two-way upside in Las Vegas, putting up 19.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.8 steals, 1.6 blocks and 2.2 three-pointers in 31.8 minutes per game. He will be coming off the bench behind Austin Reaves but could very well find himself ahead of Cam Reddish in the rotation. While he isn't worth a roster spot in standard leagues, managers in deeper formats could consider him as a late-round flier, just in case he can build off his Summer League performance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Dallas wants to keep him
GDallas Mavericks
February 2, 2026
The Mavericks "do not want" to move Christie before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
ANALYSIS The Mavericks are listening to offers for several players on their roster, including Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and D'Angelo Russell, but they're against parting ways with Christie. The Mavericks see him as a potential long-term core piece given the growth he's shown in the 2025-26 season. Even though the Mavericks will probably receive offers for the third-year veteran, expect the organization to do everything in its power to keep him around for the long haul.
