Sasser showed flashes of potential in his sophomore season with the Pistons, averaging 6.6 points, 2.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game across 57 appearances. He showcased good efficiency, shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three, with an 84.3 percent free-throw percentage. However, his role was limited, and his fit within the team's rotation remains uncertain. The Pistons have left the door wide open for Sasser to claim the backup point guard role, though, as the departure of Dennis Schroder swung the door wide open. His development as a playmaker and ability to contribute off the ball will be crucial in determining his fantasy value this season. If he doesn't perform, the Pistons could simply give more responsibility to Caris LeVert. As things currently stand, it's hard to justify using a pick on Sasser in most formats as long as Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham are healthy. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Marcus Sasser played his four years at the college level with Houston. He was a role player as a freshman before becoming a regular starter by his sophomore year. Sasser had a career-best season as a junior but was limited to just 12 games due to injury. He was also impressive as a senior, averaging 16.8 points, 3.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds across 30.8 minutes per game across 36 starts. Sasser was named the 2022-23 AAC Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. The 6-foot-1 guard was named All-AAC twice during his four-year college career. His best game of the 2022-23 season game was against South Florida on Jan. 11, when he scored a season-high 31 points while adding four assists. He scored at least 20 points in 13 games throughout the season, including the postseason. Sasser is an elite shooter and stands out in that department, making 37 percent of his three-point shots throughout his career and shooting close to 40 percent from deep over his last two seasons. However, he's more than just a spot-up shooter and may be capable hitting off the dribble in the NBA. The guard thrives on the perimeter but can drive to the basket with solid handles. He's savvy defensively and thrives as an off-ball defender due to his above-average instincts and ball-hawk mentality. His ceiling might not be as high as other players, as he'll turn 23 during this rookie year. Sasser can eventually become an impactful role player in the NBA. Given his excellent shooting ability and instincts, a best-case comparison could be Fred VanVleet. Both undersized guards can shoot the ball at an elite level while thriving defensively. Another comparison may be a more scoring-tilted De'Anthony Melton, who can space the floor and thrive defensively despite his lack of size.
Logs 21 minutes in win
GDetroit Pistons
January 22, 2026
Sasser ended Wednesday's 112-104 win over New Orleans with nine points (3-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound and four assists over 21 minutes.
ANALYSIS Sasser played at least 20 minutes for just the third time this season, shifting up in the rotation due to the absence of Cade Cunningham (hip). Although Sasser has been able to contribute when afforded meaningful minutes, situations like that are simply too rare at this point, making him a non-factor in most fantasy formats.

ANALYSIS The Pistons have a steady rotation of nine players, according to Langlois, and it seems the idea of Sasser having a role would depend on specific situations and individual performance. Sasser didn't make his season debut until Dec. 6 due to a hip injury. Still, right now, it's difficult to imagine a scenario where he'll get consistent playing time right out of the gate after overcoming the injury.
