Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Jett Howard is the son of Juwan Howard, a former NBA All-Star and Champion, who coached him at Michigan. Howard started 28 of his 29 appearances as a one-and-done freshman, averaging 14.2 points on 41/37/80 shooting, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 31.7 minutes. Those numbers earned him a selection onto the All-Big Ten Third Team (Coaches) and the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. He posted season highs of 34 points, seven threes, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and four blocks. Before college, Howard was a four-star recruit and was invited to both the Jordan Brand Classic and Iverson Roundball Classic. Howard is first and foremost a three-point shooter, whether it be off of standstill catch-and-shoots or even movement with the basketball. He can also pump-fake and drive into mid-rangers and floaters, but if help defense pushes up, his passing ability helps create good looks for his teammates. Howard's good length for a wing allows him to shoot over contests. Howard's ability to knock down threes and secondary playmake could make him a plug-and-play option for most teams, especially those in need of perimeter shooting off the bench. His game is comparable to a more three-point oriented Chandler Parsons or a bigger Tim Hardaway Jr. Teams can run plays for Howard, or he can find action in the flow of the game - both are useful in NBA settings.

Howard (illness) is off the injury report for Thursday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS Howard is available to play off the bench Thursday after missing consecutive outings with an illness. With the Orlando frontcourt now fully healthy, Howard may not see meaningful playing time against Charlotte.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Despite his upside as a legitimate perimeter threat, Howard is going to find it tough to play a consistent role for the Magic this season. The son of NBA All-Star Juwan Howard, Jett was taken with the 11th overall pick in the draft. While his offensive game should at least keep him relevant, deficiencies on the defensive end could be an issue. With Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero firmly established as the starters, Howard will be battling for backup minutes alongside Joe Ingles, Jonathan Isaac and Chuma Okeke. He is unlikely to see the court on a nightly basis but could slide into an increased role if the Magic once again fall out of playoff contention later in the season.
ANALYSIS The Magic officially declined Howard's fourth-year team option Wednesday, valued at $7.34 million. The move was hardly a surprise, as Howard has made 80 career regular-season appearances for the club and has shot 36.9 percent from the field. If the Magic can find a new home for Howard, they could potentially dodge the tax, Smith notes.
