2024 Fantasy Outlook
In his second season, Whitehead split his time between the NBA and the G League in 2024-25. He made a total of 20 appearances for Brooklyn, posting averages of 5.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.7 three-pointers in 12.3 minutes per game. While his role was too insignificant to impact fantasy leagues, Whitehead showcased his long-range shooting with a 44.6 percent mark from beyond the arc. Despite this, his outlook for 2025-26 is murky at best. The Nets brought in four first-round rookies during the 2025 NBA Draft, and the team also added Michael Porter, Terance Mann and Haywood Highsmith to the equation. Whitehead isn't projected to be in the rotation for Opening Night, and the logjam across the board in Brooklyn makes it look like an unfavorable situation for fantasy managers. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Dariq Whitehead is among the most decorated high school players in recent memory. The 18-year-old won Mr. Basketball USA and was awarded the Naismith Prep Player of the Year award in 2022 while also being the McDonald's All-American Game MVP that season. More strong play at Montverde Academy, the Nike Hoops Summit, and the Jordan Brand Classic led Whitehead to be a top recruit at Duke. Whitehead needed foot surgery before coming to Duke, and he had a second surgery on the same foot within the past few weeks, confirming speculation that he was far from healthy throughout his freshman campaign. Whitehead still averaged 8.3 points per game while burying 42.9 percent of 3.5 three-point attempts per game at Duke. Whitehead's game possesses serious explosiveness and attacking that was not displayed at Duke. He is likely better perceived from his pre-college film than his Duke film. Whitehead has a tall, thick, muscular frame that allows him to absorb contact, and he can work both on and off the ball. Defensively, he has off-ball instincts and a long wingspan to jump in passing lanes and get some blocks. Whitehead is a lottery-level talent. He's projected to be healthy for the start of the upcoming season. He missed time early in his career with foot injuries, but a silver lining is its positive impact on his shooting craft and footwork. He could slip in the draft to a playoff contender, and with the proper development and nurturing of his body, Whitehead's ceiling is among the highest in the draft.

Picks up shin injury

Leg
December 7, 2025
Whitehead was sidelined in Saturday's 139-123 G League loss to the Osceola Magic due to soreness in his right shin.
ANALYSIS
Whitehead featured off the bench in his last six games. Still, his absence is a blow to the team's depth, reducing their offensive options. Whitehead doesn't have a definitive recovery timeline at the moment, and Zack Austin should continue to benefit from extra playing time for however long Whitehead is sidelined.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Considered the top prospect in the high school class of 2022 by some evaluators, Whitehead arrived at Duke with high expectations but struggled through an injury-plagued freshman season. Whitehead saw action in 28 games but made only seven starts, posting averages of 8.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 made threes (42.9% 3Pt) in 20.6 minutes per game. The injuries ultimately made Whitehead a difficult evaluation, but there's no question the Nets landed a high-level talent for the No. 22 pick in the draft. Whitehead underwent surgery on his foot in May along with a follow-up procedure in June and missed the Las Vegas Summer League, but he's still expected to be ready for the start of the 2023-24 NBA season. It's possible he spends significant time in the G League, but the Nets' wing depth isn't particularly strong. Opportunities should arrive here and there for Whitehead to demonstrate his potential.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Fernandez talks him up
FOklahoma City Blue   G League (Thunder)
October 3, 2025
Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez has been impressed by Whitehead in camp, Sharif Phillips-Keaton of USA Today reported Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
"I can tell you he's gotten better," Fernandez said. "You look at his body from the summer, how hard he's worked, he's already gotten better and keeps taking advantage of his opportunities." Whitehead was limited to 20 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, and while his counting stats left a lot to be desired, he did hit his three-pointers at a 44.6 percent clip. While he's not projected to be in the rotation for Opening Night, that could change with a strong showing during the preseason.
