James had a difficult introduction to the NBA in 2024-25. He appeared in 27 games (one start), averaging 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 6.7 minutes per game while shooting 31.3 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. Despite limited court time, his development trajectory remains intriguing, especially given his pedigree and the fact that he and his father made NBA history as the first father-son duo to appear together in a game. To his credit, James was terrific during his G League stints, giving fans a taste of his long-term upside. Looking ahead to 2025-26, the Lakers significantly bolstered their backcourt by adding veteran wing Marcus Smart on a two-year, $11 million deal, primarily to reinforce their perimeter defense. Smart's arrival will tighten competition for minutes, especially in defensive assignments and key late-game situations, potentially limiting James' rotational opportunities while he continues to find his footing. That said, the Lakers remain committed to his development, and James could benefit from additional G League stints, building confidence by refining his shooting and passing skills. For fantasy managers in dynasty or very deep formats, James represents an ultra-long-shot upside pick, with the potential to blossom with improved efficiency, versatility, and roster fluctuations down the road. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
The eldest son of LeBron James, Bronny averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals as a senior for Sierra Canyon in California and was a consensus four-star recruit. He was a McDonald's All-American and played in the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit in 2023. He committed to USC, but at a practice in July ahead of his freshman season, James collapsed after experiencing cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect. He was released from the hospital a few days later and ultimately got some action for the Trojans after missing the first eight games of the 2023-24 campaign. James averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.8 steals in 19.4 minutes across 25 appearances (six starts) while shooting 36.6% overall, 26.7% on 3-pointers and 67.6% on free throws. He improved his draft stock with a stellar shooting display at the combine. James excels in catch-and-shoot situations and shows great energy and instincts on defense. At 6-foot-2, he lacks size at the NBA level, but his athleticism is considered elite. James can handle the ball and is a willing passer but isn't a true point guard. James projects to be a 3-and-D player at the NBA level, drawing comparisons to De'Anthony Melton. However, given his lack of experience in college, James may need to develop in the NBA G League. James' defensive prowess has drawn comparisons to Patrick Beverley and Jrue Holiday, too.

Looking to crack rotation
GLos Angeles Lakers
July 29, 2025
ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported Tuesday that James' goal for the 2025-26 season is to crack the rotation in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS James put together some positive moments at the Summer League, and he shined during his time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League in 2024-25. "The biggest thing for Bronny is that he has to get in elite shape," head coach J.J. Redick said. "That's the barrier of entry for him right now. And if he does that, I think he's got a chance to be a really fantastic player in the NBA." With the Lakers adding Marcus Smart to the backcourt, James will be facing an uphill battle for playing time.
