With the Mavericks' backcourt decimated by injuries, Williams, who was operating under a two-way deal, was thrust into action at the end of 2024-25. Over the final 15 games, including the Play-In Tournament, the backup point guard averaged 15.5 points, 4.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals while posting 55/39/86 shooting splits. Williams was awarded a standard deal before the postseason and will return to Dallas this season. Kyrie Irving is going to miss at least the first half of the campaign while recovering from a torn ACL, but Dallas brought in D'Angelo Russell to serve as the starting point guard until the veteran superstar is good to go. That leaves Williams competing for backup minutes with Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy. That's not an ideal spot to be in for fantasy purposes, but given what we saw from Williams to end last season, he has to at least be on radars heading into 2025-26. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Brandon Williams was born in November of 1999 in Los Angeles. From 2014 to 2018, he attended Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, California. Williams missed his junior high school basketball season due to knee surgery. But as a senior, after averaging 24.7 points and 2.4 steals per game, the guard was named the Los Angeles Daily News 2017-18 Player of the Year. He then committed to the University of Arizona. As a freshman Wildcat, Williams started 21 of 26 games and averaged 11.4 points, 3.4 assists and 1.4 made three-pointers over 28.2 minutes per game. Then off-season knee surgery once again cost Williams a year of basketball as he missed his sophomore year with Arizona. Williams left the university in 2020 to focus on his health and prepare for professional basketball. After going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Williams joined the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G League. In late December of 2021, he signed a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. After a second-stint with Westchester, Williams signed a two-way contract with Portland on February 22, 2022.

GDallas Mavericks
March 7, 2026
Williams notched 11 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and four assists in 19 minutes during Friday's 120-100 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS Williams returned to action Friday after sitting out the front end of the back-to-back set due to a quadriceps contusion. While he was efficient in his limited run, his playing time saw a noticeable dip with Cooper Flagg (foot) back in the starting lineup. After averaging nearly 25 minutes per game since the All-Star break, Williams was capped at 19 minutes Friday, a trend that may continue as the Mavericks' rotation returns to full strength.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Williams split 2021-22 between the NBA and the G League, where he lit it up with the Westchester Knicks to the tune of 22.6 points, 6.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds over 33.1 minutes per game early in the campaign. His effort earned him a 10-day look with Portland in late December and a two-way deal in late February. Williams took advantage of his opportunity with a banged-up Trail Blazers squad down the stretch, averaging 13.6 points, 4.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals over 28.5 minutes per contest after the All-Star break. However, he's unlikely to repeat that output this season with Portland healthier to open 2022-23, and the second-year guard may bounce between the NBA and the G League again this year. As a result, he is likely only an attractive fantasy option in the deepest of formats.

Opportunity emerges sans Flagg
GDallas Mavericks
January 16, 2026
Williams was in the Mavericks' starting lineup for Thursday's 144-122 win over the Jazz and finished with 18 points, three assists, two rebounds and one block over 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS Thursday was Williams' 10th start of the season and first since Nov. 24 against the Heat. He was moved into the starting lineup due to the absence of Cooper Flagg, who sprained his left ankle during the Mavericks' loss to the Nuggets on Wednesday. Dallas' next game takes place Saturday in a rematch against Utah, and Williams would likely remain in the Mavericks' starting five if Flagg is not cleared to return.
