Best NBA Bets Today (Tuesday, Jan. 6)
CJ McCollum over 18.5 points (-114) vs. Orlando Magic
DraftKings, 4:34 PM CT
Alex Barutha: McCollum is averaging 19.4 points since Dec. 1, and he's also averaging 22.1 points at home compared to on the road. Orlando will be in DC tonight, setting McCollum up for a good performance. Orlando continues to stay home on shooters defensively -- a strategy that's allowed opponents to score 17.1 PPG in pick-and-roll ballhandler actions and 8.9 PPG in isolation actions. Those are both fifth-highest in the NBA respectively, and the type of actions that McCollum uses often as Washington's point guard.
Trey Murphy over 19.5 points vs. Los Angeles Lakers (-122)
DraftKings, 4:31 PM CT
Nick Whalen: The total in this game is up to 244.5, as we have two of the worst defensive teams in the NBA over the last 10 games. The Lakers' defensive rating in that span is 120.9, while the Pelicans aren't much better at 119.0. The Pels are also playing at a top-five pace, while Murphy is coming off of a 27-point effort (with 15 three-point attempts) in Sunday's loss to Miami. Over the last 15 games, Murphy is averaging over 35 minutes per game.
Luka Doncic to record a triple-double at New Orleans Pelicans (+411)
DraftKings, 4:31 PM CT
Nick Whalen: We'll take a stab on Doncic to record what would be only his fourth triple-double of the season. As noted above, this should be a relatively fast-paced, defense-optional matchup against a Pelicans team that's allowing 124 points per game while surrendering the most rebounds and third-most assists per game over the last 10 contests. In two previous matchups this season, Doncic has gone for 34-12-7 and 24-7-12.
Sam Merrill over 11.5 points (-120) at Indiana Pacers
BetMGM, 3:45pm ET
Ken Crites: Donovan Mitchell is out for tonight's Cavs-Pacers match-up due to rest. Jaylon Tyson is also questionable. That frees up 21-31 field goal attempts for other Cavaliers, and I like Merrill's chances for a bunch of those. Over his last seven games, Merrill has averaged 12.3 points per game, and that's with Mitchell in the lineup. Also, should this game be a blowout (Cavs are favored by -6.5), expect Cleveland to rest Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, opening up even more minutes for Merrill. The K-Train is 10-4 on the season and 60-47 overall, so feel free to fade!
