2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Edwards showcased his upside in 2024 with a .328 average, 31 stolen bases and an .820 OPS over 70 games, but he was unable to fully translate that success into a full season last year. He finished with a .283/.343/.353 slash line in 139 games during 2025, and he actually saw a drop in his stolen base production (27) despite having more than twice as many plate appearances. His power was unsurprisingly minimal with three homers and a .070 ISO, and he ranked bottom 11 in qualified batters in both average exit velocity (86.8 mph) and hard-hit rate (29.4 percent). Edwards' elite speed offsets some of the weak contact, but he still likely deserved worse results with a .262 xBA and .329 xSLG. His poor defense at shortstop (minus-3 DRS and minus-4 OAA) prompted a position change, and he fared much better at second base with a plus-12 DRS and plus-9 OAA. Edwards will have dual-position eligibility in 2026, but fantasy managers should be wary about expecting too much from the 26-year-old, whose only real upside comes in the form of his average and stolen bases. In lineup Friday
Edwards (calf) is leading off and playing second base in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
Analysis
It's a great sign for Edwards, who departed Thursday's game with left calf tightness. The infielder won't have to miss any time due to the issue and will resume his regular starting spot. He's 3-for-11 with three steals over five games this spring.

It's not often that a breakout comes with just one home run, but Edwards slashed an impressive .328/.397/.423 with 31 steals over 303 plate appearances for Miami last season, putting himself firmly on the map after a long, winding road as a prospect. Edwards, a supplemental first-round pick by the Padres in 2018, was traded twice before he reached the majors, first to the Rays and ultimately to the Marlins in 2022. He missed the start of last season with a foot infection and was initially optioned upon activation from the 60-day injured list in late May. Eventually he seized hold of an everyday job on the strength of his contact skills and speed. Edwards is willing to take a walk and the totality of his offensive contributions added up to a 128 wRC+ last season, best on the team. The glaring issue is the total lack of home-run power, but the 25-year-old shortstop can have utility with the proper roster construction.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could head to IL
Edwards has been out of the lineup in the last two games for the Marlins due to a back problem, and a trip to the injured list might be an option in the coming days, according to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald.
Analysis
Manager Clayton McCullough revealed that Edwards underwent imaging that "came out OK" on Saturday, and the shortstop was slated to resume baseball activities. It's unclear if he'll be able to return to the lineup for Sunday's contest against the Rays, but if he doesn't, the Marlins aren't ruling out a trip to the injured list, as that move could be retroactive to May 16.
