2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Mauricio missed all of 2024 while recovering from ACL surgery and later a cleanup procedure on his knee. He began the 2025 season in extended spring training before earning a promotion to the Mets in early June. Mauricio played quite a bit initially and put up a .751 OPS with six home runs between June and July, but the 25-year-old's reps (10 starts) and production (.429 OPS) cratered in the final two months. The switch hitter became a well-thought-of prospect because of his raw tools, and he maintained a nice 91.2 mph average exit velocity in 2025. His sprint speed, though, fell from the 60th percentile in 2023 all the way to the 13th percentile in 2025. Perhaps Mauricio was told to not go full-out on his rebuilt knee, but it's also possible he'll never regain his old wheels. Mauricio's best shot at playing time in 2026 is likely as a utility infielder. Read Past Outlooks
Shows off wheels in spring debut
Mauricio went 0-for-2 with a stolen base in the Mets' Grapefruit League opener against the Marlins on Saturday.
Analysis
After reaching on a throwing error by Connor Norby in the second inning, Mauricio promptly swiped second base. It was an encouraging sign for the 24-year-old infielder. Prior to missing the entire 2024 season after ACL surgery, Mauricio had gone 31-for-38 on the basepaths over 142 games in 2023 split between Triple-A Syracuse and the majors, and per Statcast he recorded a sprint speed in the 60th percentile. In his return last season, he went just 4-for-4 in 61 big-league games on steal attempts with a 15th percentile sprint speed. If Mauricio has regained his wheels and is more confident in the health of his knee a year further removed from surgery, he could make a surprising impact in the SB category if he's able to earn consistent playing time.

Mauricio tore his ACL playing winter ball last offseason and missed all the 2024 season. Unfortunately, he also needed a cleanup procedure in August on the same knee and general manager David Stearns said in late-October that Maurcio's recovery had been slower than expected and he still hadn't advanced to baseball activities. Pre-injury, Mauricio had top-of-the-scale exit velocities and bottom-of-the-scale swing decisions, making for a difficult evaluation. Mauricio will enter the season eligible only at second base in most formats, and if he reports to spring training fully healthy, he could theoretically compete for a starting infield job in spring training. However, despite the fact Mauricio mastered Triple-A already in 2023, he will likely return to that level to knock some rust off and get his timing back while getting comfortable trusting his surgically-repaired knee in game situations. He's a boom-or-bust option best reserved for draft-and-hold formats until we get a better sense of his physical readiness in the spring.

Analysis
Mauricio doesn't really have anything left to prove in the minors but also doesn't have a clear path to playing time with the big club. The 24-year-old returned in 2025 from multiple knee surgeries, slashing .226/.293/.369 with six home runs and four stolen bases across 61 games. Mauricio is under club control through 2029.
