2026 Fantasy Outlook
Adams has much more real-life value than fantasy value, but not by much. Adams and Keibert Ruiz are to stolen base prevention as a broken umbrella is at keeping you dry. Adams was barely the better of the two preventing 19 steals in 66 attempts while Ruiz was 17 for 66. Adams has 849 career plate appearances with a 32.5% strikeout rate and this past season was, gulp, his best in homers, runs, and RBIs but it came at the cost of a 38.5% strikeout rate and a .186 average. Adams is an example of why many mono league managers are switching to a one-catcher format for leagues because the second catching situation in such leagues is becoming dire. Adams does possess top level bat speed and can hit the ball hard when he makes contact, but those moments happen too infrequently for him to become a viable fantasy option unless you have multiple catching injuries to cover for in a NL-Only league. Designated for assignment
The Nationals designated Adams for assignment Thursday.
Analysis
The 29-year-old backstop appeared in a career-high 83 games during the 2025 season but was a liability when holding a bat, as he slashed .186/.252/.308 across 286 plate appearances. With no need for five catchers on their 40-man roster, the Nationals will now move on from Adams in order to make room for Gus Varland, who was claimed off waivers from Arizona on Thursday.

2022
From an offensive perspective, Adams was one of the better-performing No. 2 catchers in baseball in 2023, putting up an .807 OPS across 158 plate appearances. That included a .960 OPS against left-handed pitching. However, Adams gave all that back in 2024, finishing with just a .629 OPS while spending some time in the minors. The Nationals brought Adams back to compete with Drew Millas for the backup job behind Keibert Ruiz. Adams' lack of minor-league options might give him an edge over Millas, but his poor defense works against him.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Gets vote of confidence
Manager Dave Martinez gave Adams a vote of confidence Tuesday and reaffirmed his position as Washington's backup catcher, reports Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com.
Analysis
The 28-year-old has a .091/.107/.218 slash line in 19 games this season and is in the midst of an 0-for-30 slump, but the Nationals aren't quite ready to test their other options behind Keibert Ruiz at catcher. Even with this season's ugly numbers, Adams has a .664 OPS in 187 regular-season games since being acquired by Washington in 2021, which are decent numbers for a No. 2 catcher.
