2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Soroka made 17 starts in 2025 between the Nationals and Cubs, which is the same number he made over the previous four seasons combined. While the righty managed just a 4.86 ERA in those outings, a 1.13 WHIP and 90:25 K:BB across 83.1 innings offered more promise. Soroka went down with a right shoulder strain after just one start following a trade to the Cubs, though he returned late in the year as a reliever. Still just 28, Soroka inked a deal with the Diamondbacks over the winter and showed enough flashes in 2025 to make him an interesting late-round dart throw in fantasy leagues. That said, he hasn't reached 90 innings at the big-league level since 2019, so the odds that he'll be both healthy and effective throughout 2026 are long. Read Past Outlooks
Starts Canada's WBC debut
Soroka allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings in Team Canada's win over Columbia on Saturday at the World Baseball Classic.
Analysis
Soroka was on the mound for Team Canada's first game of the WBC. The right-hander threw 54 pitches (30 strikes), touching 97 mph and averaging 94.7 mph with his four-seamer after managing 93.6 mph with the pitch in 2025. He was signed by the Diamondbacks for rotation depth but has experience out of the bullpen. Soroka's exact role to start the season will be determined by whether Merrill Kelly (back) can avoid a stint on the injured list. Kelly recently threw a bullpen and is set to throw live batting practice Sunday.

The White Sox traded for Soroka last offseason and put him in their Opening Day rotation, but the results were disastrous, with the righty holding a 6.39 ERA and 24:24 K:BB over 43.2 frames covering nine starts. He was shifted to the bullpen at that point and took off, collecting a 2.75 ERA and 60:20 K:BB across 36 innings the rest of the way. The 27-year-old did miss time in the second half with a shoulder issue, but he looked dominant after returning in September. Soroka ditched his sinker in favor of a four-seamer in relief and also got whiffs with his slider at nearly a 50 percent rate. Even after the right-hander's success out of the bullpen, the Nationals signed him over the offseason to be a starter. The odds that he'll hold up physically and perform well in the rotation aren't high, but Soroka is still young enough that perhaps he can pull it off.
