2026 Fantasy Outlook
Facing a rebuilding year, the Cardinals committed to Liberatore as a member of their 2025 rotation after the southpaw had spent most of the previous season in the bullpen. Liberatore came out of the gate firing, putting up a 3.08 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 56:9 K:BB over 64.1 innings through the end of May. He went through a midseason lull with a 5.51 ERA over his next 14 starts before finishing strong with a 3.54 ERA and 20:6 K:BB across 20.1 frames in September. Not much stood out for Liberatore when you take a step back and look at his entire season, but he showed enough at the beginning and end of the year that there's hope for more consistency in 2026 now that he's got a full year in a major-league rotation under his belt. Settles with Cardinals
The Cardinals and Liberatore avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.26 million contract Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis
Liberatore was eligible for salary arbitration for the first time as a Super 2 qualifier. The left-hander had a solid first full season in the Cardinals' rotation, finishing 2025 with a 4.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 122:40 K:BB in 151.2 innings over 29 starts. Liberatore will be counted on as a key member of the St. Louis rotation again in 2026.

Liberatore has been unable to find his footing in a starting role. He was handed six starts by the Cardinals last season and produced a 6.35 ERA, pushing his mark in 24 career starts at the big-league level to 5.86, along with an unsightly 17.4 percent strikeout rate and 10 percent walk rate. The left-hander's stuff has played up in shorter stints, however, and when he was used exclusively in relief from August on he posted a 2.67 ERA, 25 percent strikeout rate and six percent walk rate. Even if Liberatore has found his niche as a reliever, his persistent issues versus right-handed batters (career .878 OPS, .823 OPS in 2024) could prevent an ascension to an eighth- or ninth-inning role.

Analysis
The left-hander finally got a full season working as an MLB starter in 2025 and posted a respectable 4.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 122:40 K:BB across 151.2 innings.
