2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Carpenter remained a solid fantasy contributor in 2025, though his limitations against left-handed pitching continue to cap his overall value. The outfielder posted an .812 OPS with 23 home runs in 373 at-bats against righties last year compared to a .638 OPS and three long balls in only 60 at-bats versus southpaws. Since 2023, he's sporting an .868 OPS against righties and only a .607 OPS against lefties. Carpenter also doesn't offer much beyond his power, as he stole just a single base in 2025 and he has only seven across four MLB seasons. Carpenter is certainly a talented player, and he should once again occupy a prime lineup spot for the Tigers in 2026, but he will likely ride the bench frequently against same-handed pitching. Fantasy managers should target the 28-year-old for homers, though there are other outfielders with more even left/right splits who probably have higher ceilings. Read Past Outlooks
Goes deep Wednesday
Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in an exhibition game versus Team Panama on Wednesday.
Analysis
Carpenter went deep against Kenny Hernandez, a 27-year-old who has bounced around independent baseball the past few seasons. Of greater significance is the fact that Hernandez is left-handed. While Carpenter will face higher-quality pitching moving forward, his ability to produce against southpaws will go a long way toward determining his fantasy value in 2026. There's been talk in camp that Carpenter could receive more opportunities against lefties after logging only 60 at-bats against them during the regular season last year. The 28-year-old regularly rakes against righties, but his fantasy ceiling has been capped in the past due to being mostly a strong-side platoon player.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Carpenter was affected by injury in 2024 for the second year in a row, this time missing almost three months of action with a lumbar spine stress fracture. He had collected a .914 OPS before getting hurt and didn't miss a beat after returning, putting up a .954 OPS and 10 home runs over his final 133 plate appearances before adding another homer in the playoffs. Carpenter again stood out for his quality of contact, boasting a 46.4 percent hard-hit rate and 17.7 percent barrel rate. The 27-year-old's big bugaboo is that he can't hit left-handed pitching (.408 OPS in 2024) and rarely gets the opportunity to do so. It certainly limits how much volume he's able to provide, and that's even before factoring in Carpenter's increasing injury concerns. That said, Carpenter's 149 wRC+ versus righties since the start of 2023 is the 11th highest in baseball among players with at least 500 plate appearances. When he's in the lineup, he's going to mash.
