2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Kepley might be a plus hitter with plus speed and 70-grade center field defense, and he's slowly making strides in the power department, although that will always be the weakest part of his fantasy profile. The lefty-hitting Kepley is listed at 5-foot-8, 180 pounds and hit three home runs in 61 games last spring as a junior for North Carolina after spending his first two seasons at Liberty. He walked twice as much as he struck out in his lone year for the Tar Heels and had more hit-by-pitches as a junior (27) than strikeouts (22). He slashed .299/.481/.433 with two home runs, 16 steals, a 19.1 percent walk rate and an 11.5 percent strikeout rate in 28 games at Single-A after signing for $1.4 million. Kepley's pull and oppo rates were even and his flyball rate exceeded his groundball rate in his debut, so he isn't a slap hitter. A 10-homer/30-steal leadoff hitter is a pretty nice outcome for the No. 56 overall pick, and Kepley could pull that off at peak. Read Past Outlooks
Snagged by Cubs
The Cubs have selected Kepley with the 56th overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft.
Analysis
There's no sugarcoating the fact Kepley probably won't provide much over-the-fence power in pro ball. The lefty-hitting center fielder is listed at 5-foot-8, 180 pounds and hit three home runs in 61 games this spring as a junior for North Carolina after spending his first two seasons at Liberty. Fortunately, he is a plus defender and plus runner who walked twice as much as he struck out in his lone year for the Tar Heels. He had more hit-by-pitches this year (27) than strikeouts (22), and he's never posted an OBP below .450, so if it all works out Kepley could lead off, at least against righties.
