2025 Fantasy Outlook
With Devin Williams absent for the first four months of the 2024 campaign, Payamps got some run as the Brewers' closer last April. He only tallied six saves all season, as the team primarily ran with Trevor Megill in the ninth inning until Williams returned from injury. With Milwaukee recently trading their star closer to the Yankees, the door is open for Payamps to receive a larger share of the team's save chances in 2025, but those opportunities will likely be tied to Megill's durability. Payamps has held opposing hitters to a sub-.200 batting average on both his slider and fastball over the past two years, but his hard-hit and barrel percentages allowed significantly regressed last season. He also dealt with forearm tightness last September, which didn't appear to be a major concern. Payamps is a decent spec for 2025 saves, but he's not one to contribute much else if he's not the Brewers closer. Read Past Outlooks
Back with Atlanta on one-year deal
Atlanta signed Payamps to a one-year, $2.25 million contract Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Payamps joined Atlanta as a waiver claim in late September and was outrighted to Triple-A on Nov. 6. That move was likely made by the team to avoid an arbitration hearing, as the $2.25 million agreed to by the sides Sunday is probably less than what the veteran reliever would have received in arbitration. Regardless, Payamps now seems ticketed for a role in Atlanta's bullpen in 2026. He's had plenty of major-league success but will be looking to rebound from a career-worst 2025 campaign during which he posted a 6.84 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB over 26.1 innings across 30 appearances between Atlanta and Milwaukee.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Pitching for his 5th team over the last four seasons, Payamps unexpectedly broke out in 2023. Milwaukee acquired the 29-year-old from Oakland last December and gave him a spot in their Opening Day bullpen. Payamps secured his first career save early in the season and had an impressive 25:4 K:BB ratio over his first 22 innings. By mid-May, he jumped into a setup role that he'd settle into over the remainder of the season. Payamps showcased an improved walk rate (5.9%) and strikeout rate (26.8%) that spiked nearly 10 percent from prior outputs. After recording a career-high 28 holds (T-5th in the league), the right-hander figures to open 2024 in a high-leverage role for the Brewers. However, he's somewhat risky for leagues that count holds, as his ratios could plummet if his slider doesn't hold up.
