Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Heading into last season, Junk had logged just 40 major league innings across four partial seasons, producing a 6.75 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP. In late May, Miami called him up from Triple-A Jacksonville to help stabilize an injury-ravaged pitching staff. He began in long-relief, then served as a primary pitcher, before joining Marlins' rotation. The result was a breakout campaign, though it included a brief injured-list stint due to right ulnar nerve irritation. His ERA matched its estimators, but repeating a 2.9 percent walk rate and 0.65 HR/9 will be difficult. That said, his 63.7 percent left on base rate was notably low, suggesting some bad luck. Even with increases in walks and homers, a normalized LOB mark could keep his ERA in check. Still, more walks would inflate his WHIP, and a below-average strikeout rate creates added risk. Junk should be given a chance to make the rotation but be ready to move on if things aren't going his way. Read Past Outlooks
Stumbles in Detroit
Junk (0-2) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks over five innings as the Marlins were downed 6-1 by the Tigers. He struck out four.
Analysis
A three-run homer by Riley Greene in the third inning was the big blow off Junk, who tossed 64 of 99 pitches for strikes before exiting. The 30-year-old right-hander has seen an uptick in velocity this season, but so far it hasn't translated into significantly better results. He'll take a 4.32 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB through 16.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Brewers.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Acquired from the Angels in the Hunter Renfroe trade in November of 2022, Junk made just two appearances during his first year with the Brewers. The 28-year-old covered 140 innings at Triple-A Nashville last season and finished with an underwhelming 4.18 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 94:44 K:BB. A move to the bullpen could be on tap for Junk in 2024 given his plus-4.00 ERA and subpar strikeout numbers (6.9 K/9) at Triple-A over the previous two seasons.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Better odds to start?
Junk may have an improved chance of making the Brewers' starting rotation after Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported Tuesday that Aaron Ashby will be behind to begin camp due to shoulder fatigue.
Analysis
Ashby missed time with shoulder inflammation last season, so the team may exercise additional caution this time around. Junk was acquired from the Angels in November and may have a hard time cracking the rotation, even if Ashby is unavailable for Opening Day. Junk has just seven big-league appearances under his belt and has a 4.74 ERA over 24.2 frames.
