2026 Fantasy Outlook
Latz did not make the Rangers' Opening Day roster last season but wound up playing an important swingman role for them. In eight starts and a pair of bulk relief appearances for Texas, Latz posted a 2.36 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 36:19 K:BB over 49.2 innings of work. With a good fastball he can spot at the top of the strike zone, a changeup that induced whiffs at a 41 percent rate, and a slider that shows some promise, Latz has the repertoire of a starting pitcher. What he might not possess is enough control to make it work, having put up an 11.5 percent walk rate in the majors and an 11 percent walk rate in the minors. If he does win a spot in the Rangers' rotation, the left-hander could make for an interesting late-round fantasy selection. Read Past Outlooks
Battles into fourth inning
Latz allowed three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Giants.
Analysis
Latz's third Cactus League start was a grind. After an efficient 1-2-3 first inning, the left-hander needed 18 pitches for the second frame. The walks also drove up his pitch count, and by the time he started the fourth inning, Latz's velocity diminished. Per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers have been concerned about Latz's ability to maintain velocity throughout a game and work as a viable starter. He's currently competing with Kumar Rocker for the final spot in the rotation, with Cal Quantrill and Austin Gomber also options if neither favorite is deemed able to handle the assignment.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Latz opened 2024 in the majors and spent more time with the Rangers than in the minors for the first time since making his MLB debut in 2022. The left-hander danced around elevated walk (14.1 percent) and hard-hit (40.3 percent) rates to post a 3.71 ERA (5.01 xERA) over 43.2 innings before an August forearm injury. He finished out the season rehabbing and eventually had a late September activation to the minors. The Rangers lost several members of the 2024 bullpen, so there should be spots up for grabs during spring training. Latz is one of three lefty relievers, including Hobey Milner and Walter Pennington, that could earn a roster spot.
