2025 Fantasy Outlook
Jax broke out as a lockdown reliever in 2024, posting career-best marks across multiple categories including a 2.03 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 95 strikeouts, 10 saves and 24 holds. The 29-year-old significantly improved his strikeout rate (34.4 percent) by nearly 10 percentage points - his sweeper and changeup headlining his five-pitch aresenal with 45 percent or better whiff rates. Jax's 37.8 percent overall whiff rate was a 98th percentile metric. The Twins recently indicated they're open to the possibility of moving Jax to the starting rotation. The right-hander came up through the minors as a starter and made 14 starts for the Twins in 2021, posting a 6.10 ERA. Given his past starting experience, Jax would seem more equipped for a shift to the rotation than most relievers. The question is whether the uptick in stuff since his move to relief would translate back to a starting role. Read Past Outlooks
Part of Rays' closer-by-committee
Jax, Garrett Cleavinger and Edwin Uceta are expected to be part of a closer-by-committee for the Rays in 2026, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
There's been some talk of Jax potentially stretching out to join the Rays' rotation, but the current plan is to leave the 31-year-old in the bullpen. Acquired from the Twins at the trade deadline, Jax had an elevated 4.23 ERA in 2025, but a 2.51 FIP and 35 percent strikeout rate were more indicative of how he pitched. Mason Montgomery, Bryan Baker, Hunter Bigge, Steven Wilson and Manuel Rodriguez (elbow) could also work their way into high-leverage work, but the tentative plan seems to be for Jax, Cleavinger and Uceta to share the closer role.

Jax led Twins relievers with 71 appearances and 23 holds last season as the team's primary setup man. The 29-year-old racked up 10 losses to lead all relievers, but his ratios and underlying metrics were solid. Jax's 3.3 barrel percentage allowed was in the 97th percentile, while his hard-hit percentage, average exit velocity and 56.8 percent ground ball rate were all well above-average. His 2.86 xERA was a full point better than his 3.86 ERA, which shows there's room for improvement in that category. Expect Jax to rack up 20-plus holds and a handful of ancillary saves again in 2024.

Twins still fielding offers
The Twins remain in trade talks regarding Jax even after dealing Jhoan Duran, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jax is currently in line to take over as the Twins' closer following the departure of Duran, but trade talks involving Jax have "increased" Thursday, per Rosenthal. It would take a haul in order to pry him from the Twins, as Jax boasts a 35.2 percent strikeout rate over the last two seasons and is under team control through 2027.
