2026 Fantasy Outlook
Traded from the Dodgers to the Reds in January 2025, Lux logged a career-high 503 plate appearances while serving as a regular with Cincinnati last season. The former top prospect slashed .282/.361/.400 against right-handed pitching but just .179/.270/.196 against lefties, and he provided little in terms of counting stats, totaling five homers and a lone stolen base across 140 regular-season games. Poor defensive marks hurt his real-world value, but teams like that he takes his walks (career 10.1 BB%) and doesn't go chasing pitches outside the zone. After splitting his time mostly between left field and DH, Lux is now OF-only in many formats, losing second-base eligibility in leagues with a 20-game requirement (17 appearances). The 28-year-old was traded again in January, landing with the Rays in a three-team deal, and he will likely face a stricter platoon role in 2026. He's provided little in terms of power or speed through six major-league seasons with 33 homers and 20 steals in 552 career games. Read Past Outlooks
Tweaks ankle on rehab assignment
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Lux (shoulder) rolled his left ankle during an at-bat in a rehab game Saturday with Triple-A Durham, but the injury isn't "too severe," Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis
Lux has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a right shoulder impingement, but he now has a new injury to overcome before being cleared to make his Rays debut. While the ankle issue isn't considered a major concern and Lux is expected to resume his rehab assignment soon, the 28-year-old will need to pick up the pace at the dish before the Rays feel comfortable activating him from the 10-day injured list. Through his first nine games with Durham, Lux went just 3-for-29 (.103 average) with eight walks and 10 strikeouts.

Lux's 2024 season was a tale of two halves. He batted just .213 with three homers over 76 games prior to the All-Star break, but the Dodgers stuck with him, and the infielder turned things around with a much more intriguing .304 batting average and seven long balls the rest of the way. Even after heating up, however, Lux largely sat against lefty hurlers -- he logged just 46 at-bats versus southpaws as opposed to 393 against right-handers during the campaign. While Lux's second-half surge was promising, it's hard as a fantasy manager to get excited about a player who barely reaches double-digit homers and rarely steals a base (Lux finished the campaign with five thefts). Lux's playing time was hardly guaranteed in Los Angeles, so being traded to Cincinnati in January provides him a much clearer path to a regular lineup spot. Having hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park as his home field should also boost his offensive profile. The change of scenery could allow Lux to settle in and reach his offensive potential, and he's an upside play for fantasy managers willing to take on his inconsistent track record through three full seasons.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
SEA, NYY have inquired
The Mariners have inquired with the Dodgers about Lux's availability, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Analysis
The Yankees have also kicked the tires on Lux, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. Lux remains the current favorite to open the 2025 season as the Dodgers' second baseman, but the club's recent signing of Hyeseong Kim gives them added depth at the keystone. The 27-year-old Lux had a strong second half in 2024, slashing .304/.391/.508, but overall he's hit a pedestrian .252/.326/.383 in parts of five seasons. He's under team control through 2026.
