The Rangers traded Rosario (elbow), Gavin Fien, Abimelec Ortiz, Devin Fitz-Gerald (shoulder) and Yeremy Cabrera to the Nationals on Thursday in exchange for MacKenzie Gore, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis
Rosario hasn't pitched since 2024, as the Rangers announced in February 2025 that he would require Tommy John surgery, and the 24-year-old righty waited nearly an entire year before finally going under the knife. Because of his decision to postpone the operation, he will have to wait until 2027 to make his first appearance in the Nationals' farm system.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
A fifth-round selection in 2023 out of Miami, Rosario has big-time stuff, but his 7.11 ERA and 1.63 WHIP as a junior led to him sliding to the fifth round. The Rangers gave him a comfy assignment to the lowest full-season level of the minors, and Rosario dominated, logging a 2.11 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and a 69:5 K:BB in 47 innings across 10 starts. It was more of the same at High-A, with the 6-foot-1 righty logging a 2.40 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 31.9 K-BB% in 41.1 innings. His mid-90s fastball touches 100 mph, and he uses it to generate groundballs down in the zone but can also dial it up for strikeouts. Rosario has one of the better splitters in the minors - a dastardly 88-92 mph offering - as well as an above-average sweeper. The biggest development in 2024 was Rosario logging walk rates below five percent at both stops while throwing a career-high 88.1 innings. He'll open the year in the upper levels of the minors, and while he may spend the whole year on the farm, Rosario is talented enough to force the issue in the middle of the summer. He is one of the best pitching prospects in the game.

Could debut in 2025
PTexas Rangers  AA
October 12, 2024
Rosario could be a factor in the Rangers' starting rotation in 2025, reports Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News.
Analysis
The 22-year-old was named Texas' minor-league pitcher of the year as he switched from using a two-seam fastball to a four-seam fastball. Rosario posted a 2.24 ERA with 129 strikeouts over 88.1 innings between the Single-A and High-A levels in 2024, so he'll likely need to get in some innings in the upper minors early next season before being seriously considered as a rotation option by the Rangers.
