A left calf strain delayed Hays' debut with the Reds until April 15. He returned with a homer in his first game of 2025 and put up an 1.160 OPS in his first week back, but the fun was short lived as Hays made another trip to the IL with a hamstring strain, and yet another with a foot contusion. He also missed time in September due to back spasms. Despite all the stops and starts, Hays reached 15 homers and 64 RBI while regularly serving as the cleanup hitter for Cincinnati when available. At age 30, Hays still as a splash of speed as evidenced by his career-high seven steals in as many attempts last season. However, he is averaging fewer than 100 games played the last two years, having also missed extended time due to injury in 2024. A free agent again this winter, Hays is in danger of landing in a worse park with a lower spot in the order and perhaps a lesser role for another club. Read Past Outlooks
