2026 Fantasy Outlook
The 2025 season -- which included three separate IL stints and a move to the bullpen -- was not the most productive year for McCullers from a fantasy/statistical perspective. However, the success was in the fact that he returned to the majors after two full seasons on the shelf while recovering from surgery to repair a torn right flexor tendon in his right forearm. His first start against the White Sox on May 4 marked his first pitch thrown in a major-league game since the 2022 World Series. It's hard to envision seeing McCullers return to the rotation given his injury history and the talent on the Astros roster, but his solid groundball rate (47.6 percent) could translate well into a long-relief role out of the bullpen, which would give him some deep fantasy value in leagues that reward holds.
