Wagner spent most of his time with Toronto last season, posting a .237/.336/.298 slash line with no homers, seven RBI and a stolen base over 132 plate appearances. He was acquired by San Diego at the trade deadline but rarely played with the Padres, going 2-for-15 over 15 games, only one of which was a start. Wagner offers little game power or speed (he has just two homers and one theft over 79 career major-league games), so his offensive impact will have to rely upon his contact skills, which he's demonstrated with a career 18.7% strikeout rate. Wagner is a good enough hitter to perhaps carve out a niche as a utility infielder, but San Diego's offseason signing of Sung-Mun Song further impedes Wagner's path to playing time.
