2026 Fantasy Outlook
Schmidt got off a late start in 2025 after a spring shoulder injury led to a season-opening stint on the IL. He ultimately made his campaign debut in mid-April and quietly pitched well, posting a 3.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 73:30 K:BB over 78.2 innings spanning 14 starts. The right-hander's 23.1% K rate wasn't anything special, but he ranked above the 75th percentile in all of barrel rate, hard-hit rate and average exit velocity, which paints a pretty clear picture of how he was able to be successful. Schmidt's effectiveness was huge for a Yankees staff that was gut-punched by long-term injuries to Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil before the start of the season, but alas, Schmidt hurt his elbow in early July and underwent an internal brace procedure soon thereafter. That likely will put him out of action until past the All-Star break in 2026, and it's rational to expect that it's going to take some time for him to ramp back up when he returns, so he's probably not worth a stash in redraft fantasy formats.
