The Cubs need their offense to produce early and often if they want to set the tone against the Padres in Game 1 of this Wild Card Round, and no player is better suited to do that than Hoerner. Even though the likes of Kyle Tucker, Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch and Pete Crow-Armstrong posted better run-production numbers, Hoerner was extremely consistent and finished among the best hitters in the National League with a .297 average. Plus, he hit .333 with an .842 OPS in September and recorded 12 multi-hit performances in 25 contests during the final week of the regular season.
Hoerner is the best bet in the Cubs lineup to record a multi-hit game. He went 5-for-12 against the Padres at Wrigley Field this season while posting two multi-hit performances in three contests.

Red Sox vs. Yankees: Garrett Crochet over 7.5 strikeouts, -118 @ BetMGM
Crochet will get the nod in Game 1 of his epic rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox, and while Boston will be on the road, Crochet has proven he can produce against the Yankees time and time again. Crochet has gone 3-0 with a 3.29 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 27.1 innings in four starts against the Yankees in 2025.
In those four starts, Crochet eclipsed the mark of 7.5 strikeouts three times, and he fanned 12 the last time he faced the Bronx Bombers on Sep. 14. The line is a bit high, but as one of the best pitchers in baseball and the MLB leader in strikeouts in 2025 with 255, this is a mark Crochet could easily reach.

Reds vs. Dodgers: Shohei Ohtani over 1.5 total bases, -121 @ BetRivers
Ohtani will be in charge of setting the tone for the Dodgers' offense, and he ended the regular season on a high note with a 3-for-5 performance against the Mariners on Sunday, Sep. 28, that included a double, a homer and two runs scored. Ohtani hit .312 with a 1.165 OPS across 24 games in September, and he posted over 1.5 total bases nine times over that stretch. Ohtani has a knack for performing at the biggest moments, and if the Dodgers want to ease off the challenge of the Reds, Ohtani will need to be at his best at the dish. Expect him to set the tone offensively for the NL West champions in this series opener.
