MLB DFS: DraftKings Plays and Strategy for Sunday, October 19

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

The Dodgers made swift work of the Brewers and now await the winner of the ALCS to try and repeat as champions. Game 6 returns the series to Toronto as the Blue Jays must win to keep the series going. Sunday's matchup starts at 8:03 p.m. EDT.

For DFS purposes, you get $50,000 in salary for six players. Your Captain earns 1.5 times the points but with an elevated salary. We're looking at a pitching matchup between Trey Yesavage - who struggled earlier this series - and Logan Gilbert - who was only asked to pitch three innings earlier in this series. A potential Game 7 looms, so it can't be all hands on deck. But obviously in the postseason, relievers - and sometimes starters pitching in relief - are called upon to dig deep. Here's the lineup I landed on.

Captain

Vladimir Guerrero, TOR vs. SEA ($13,200): I didn't overthink it here. Guerrero has been the best hitter during the playoffs with a 1.495 OPS while producing five homers and three doubles in nine games. And since 2023, he's slugged over .480 against both righties and lefties. Why not roster the player who's been October's hottest bat?

Utility

Julio Rodriguez, SEA at TOR ($9,000): Yesavage has a pitching style that makes him more susceptible against his fellow righties. Rodriguez offers a skill set that yielded at least 30 doubles, 30 homers, and 30 stolen bases. And it's always better to get him away from Seattle as their park significantly cuts into his numbers, yet he managed a .912 OPS on the road.

Daulton Varsho, TOR vs. SEA ($8,000): I'm just hoping Varsho gets two - possibly three - at-bats versus righties. He's registered a sub-.300 OBP this postseason with a .528 slugging percentage, which is expected. Varsho also launched 18 homers against righties this season in only 215 plate appearances. Only if and when the Mariners manage to get Gabe Speier out there against Varsho, he offers real power upside.

Eugenio Suarez, SEA at TOR ($7,800): In a one-game, playoff DFS scenario, some who could always just go up and hit two home runs in a game is nice to have. Why not swing for the fences like Suarez? Not only is he a righty facing Yesavage, but he slugged .552 against right-handers this year.

Addison Barger, TOR vs. SEA ($6,200): Barger slugged .480 against righties, which isn't too surprising as he's a southpaw. However, he also slugged .480 at home. Facing Gilbert and any righties than come out of the pen will be to Barger's benefit.

Nathan Lukes, TOR vs. SEA ($5,600): The way the salaries were set played the primary role in taking four Blue Jays versus two Mariners. Lukes was always likely to go Sunday with a righty starting, though it's fairly certain as George Springer is banged up and likely covering DH if available. The lefty has been a nice surprise for Toronto during the playoffs batting .333 with three doubles.
