This is a tough development for Brown. He transferred to Cal after three seasons at Ohio State. He never got much of a chance to show what he can do, only attempting 48 passes. Still, he was presumed to be the favorite for the Bears' QB1 job, and now he's lost that competition to a freshman. He'll be the top backup and may still take the reins should Sagapolutele struggle, but will start the season on the bench.
