Carter Smith News: Cedes work to Simmons in loss

Smith was 5-for-8 passing for 20 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 17-7 loss versus Minnesota. He also had five rushes for 16 yards.

Although Smith and Hunter Simmons were listed as co-starters, Smith faded into the woodwork in the second half after failing to do much under center. The freshman's hold on a starting role next season is hanging by a thread, and it's likely he'll be fighting for the job opposite Danny O'Neil, and Billy Edwards could also compete if he takes a medical redshirt and stays out of the portal.
