2025 Fantasy Outlook
Grisham's first season in New York did not go smoothly, as he slashed a meager .190/.290/.385 over 208 plate appearances. It was the third straight year in which Grisham finished the campaign below the Mendoza Line, and whereas he notched both double-digit homers and double-digit thefts in three of his prior four seasons, he managed just nine homers and one stolen base (on two attempts) in 2024. It may be even more perplexing that his defense seemed to slip a couple notches since that element of his game is largely what earned him playing time in the past. The Yankees lost Juan Soto in the offseason but added Cody Bellinger and seem committed to giving phenom Jasson Dominguez a chance to play every day. As a result, Grisham isn't likely to get more than occasional opportunities as a reserve outfielder and left-handed pinch hitter. Read Past Outlooks
Back with NYY on QO
Grisham accepted the one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer from the Yankees on Tuesday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old had a breakout 2025 with 34 homers and an .812 OPS in 143 regular-season games, and it's not a major surprise he accepted the qualifying offer given that he had a .651 OPS across the previous three seasons. Grisham should be back in center field for the Yankees in 2026, though it would be a bit surprising if he replicated the elite power production.

Grisham's most obvious real-life value has always been tied to his defense, though his potential to package double-digit homers and steals has kept him from falling entirely off the fantasy radar. Last season, he notched a career-high 15 thefts and slugged 13 long balls but was largely unrosterable due to batting a meager .198, falling below the Mendoza Line for the second straight year. Grisham was awarded for his patience at the plate with an elite 13.5% walk rate, but his affinity for taking pitches wasn't all positive -- he passed on considerably more pitches in the best areas of the strike zone than the average major-leaguer, which combined with a 28.3% whiff rate to result in a poor 27.8% strikeout rate. Grisham's glove gave him a considerable amount of job security during his tenure to San Diego, but after moving to the Yankees in the Juan Soto deal, he'll likely spend the 2024 campaign in a fourth-outfielder role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Yankees want him back
The Yankees are open to bringing Grisham back for the 2026 season, general manager Brian Cashman told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "He had a hell of a year for us, and one of the big reasons why we had the level of success we did. We'd be happy if he accepted and came back."
ANALYSIS
The Yankees extended Grisham the one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer, but it sounds as though the club could be interested in retaining him even if he turns down the qualifying offer. "If he turns it down, that means the market is flush with teams that have a need in the outfield, especially center field," Cashman said. Grisham had a breakout season in 2025, hitting 34 homers and posting an .812 OPS in 143 regular-season games.
